WorkShops
Workshops range in all types of categories, include teaching the history of
puppets, methods used to create them, the different types of puppets and their
uses as teaching aides. These skills can be used from pre-school to college to
teach a variety of subjects.
This is a puppet made at the Thomasville
Community Resource Center in Thomasville
Ga. during a 6 week workshop conducted in
the spring of 2005.
It is made of paper-mâché , cloth and strung
as a simple marionette.
All types of workshops are available. David teaches how to make a
simple marionette or hand puppet from found objects or easily
attained items. Advanced classes are available which include making
complicated paper-mâché puppets, carving puppets out of wood and
using various other methods of sculpture for making characters.

Pre-school ages can learn colors and shapes as well as increase their
fine motor skills by creating simple puppets. Students of all ages
increase their communication skills as well as develop interpersonal
relationships.

Puppetry Art is a combination of many art forms. David explains the
different mediums used to create his unique puppets and
demonstrates the mechanics of how the marionettes are ‘strung up’.
Each of his puppets are hand made and portray a character all of
their own.

A variety of recycled and found objects are used to make the puppets.
Some are made of cloth while others are made of wood, hot melt glue
or paper-mâché’. He combines modern ideas with traditional
methods to get his unique style of puppetry.

Davids goal is to stimulate others to use their imaginations in more
creative ways to build and create puppets of their own.

David will be conducting a 6 week workshop at the Proctor & Gamble
Child Development Center starting in January of 2007 and he has
plans for other workshops in the Thomasville Georgia area.
